Southern Lizard Canary Club
Superior & Supreme Pedigree Lizard Canary Scheme
It is hoped that this scheme, whilst elevating the pedigree status of the Lizard Canary, will increase the amount of patronage applied for and also increase the number of birds exhibited.
The basic premise of the scheme is that after securing the required amount of points, the bird itself is recognised as a Superior Lizard Canary regardless of the status of the exhibitor/owner. In other words a Junior, Novice or Champion exhibitor/owner can be the owner of a Superior Lizard Canary.
The criteria for an individual bird to be elevated to Superior Lizard Canary has to be set so that it is achievable in one show season but can only be achieved by exceptional specimens so that birds that reach this level truly are Superior.
Obviously for this scheme to work only birds that can be uniquely identified can be considered for inclusion and the onus will be on the exhibitor/owner to supply this information. This can be done when entering a bird for a show by filling in a brief description and the ring number, i.e. Gold Clear Cap Cock, Ring no; LCA 12345. After judging it will be a simple matter of asking the judge to confirm that the winning bird is indeed the one described.
Please read the following carefully:
- For a bird to qualify for scheme points it must be close rung with a unique identification i.e. LCA rings or for example, a close ring that bears unique letters or numbers such as PB/06/01. Birds wearing split rings or which are unrung will not qualify for scheme points.
- For a bird to qualify for scheme points its owner must be a fully paid up member of The Southern Lizard Canary Club.
- Birds must be judged by a recognised Lizard Canary Judge or a Judge approved by the Southern Lizard Canary Club so that only those birds that resemble the standard can be elevated to Superior status.
- The amount of points required for a bird to become a Superior Lizard Canary is 12. This must be achieved in one show season and points will not be carried over to following show seasons.
- Points are only awarded for the Best Lizard Canary in show (class wins do not qualify for this scheme) regardless of whether the owner/exhibitor has Junior, Novice or Champion status.
- Points will be allocated as follows:
v Best Lizard Canary at the Southern Lizard Canary Show = 6 points.
v Best Lizard Canary at Club Show = 5 points.
v Best Lizard Canary at Full Patronage Level = 4 points.
v Best Lizard Canary at Rosette Patronage Level = 3 points.
- The Best Lizard Canary (if it qualifies for the scheme) at the above mentioned shows will also be awarded a Rosette that will bear the inscription: Southern Lizard Canary Club Pedigree Scheme and the tail of the rosette will bear the amount of points awarded.
- On reaching Superior Lizard Canary status the owner/exhibitor of the bird will receive a Diploma and a cash award of £25.
- Once an individual bird is recognised as a Superior Lizard Canary by the Southern Lizard Canary Club it remains at that level until its demise.
- Should the situation arise whereby two or more birds that have attained Superior Lizard Canary status are entered in the same show and one goes on to be awarded Best Lizard Canary in Show that bird will then become a Supreme Lizard Canary. This would be a truly exceptional bird and deserves to be recognised.
- On reaching Supreme Lizard Canary Status the owner/exhibitor will receive a Diploma and a cash award of £50.
- If, during one show season, no one individual bird is elevated to Superior or Supreme status the bird or birds that have amassed the most points at qualifying shows will receive a Pedigree Scheme certificate and all or an equal share of a prize fund of £25.
- All people that achieve 12 points receive £25
- The scheme will be administered by Paul Brockman under the jurisdiction of the Southern Lizard Canary Club committee.
- Any matter not covered above will be decided by the Southern Lizard Canary Club Committee.
The Southern Lizard Canary Club Committee hope that this scheme will elevate the Lizard Canary within the fancy and reinforce that like all pedigree stock, Superior and Supreme exhibits should be recognised. We feel that this scheme is innovative and would ask the membership to support it in the manner in which it was introduced.
The Southern Lizard Canary Club Committee have agreed a two year trial to this scheme and the monetary awards are to be sponsored during this trial period by Paul Brockman, thus alleviating any financial strain to the Southern Lizard Canary Club funds other than the cost of the special rosettes that will be awarded.
