Chairman's Report for Southern News Winter 2011
Although many birdrooms appear to experience a quiet lull between the end of the show season and the start of breeding, this really is a time when efficient stock management will pay dividends in the months ahead.
If everything goes to plan the birds will arrive at the start of Spring in the peak of condition, and raring to go to nest. However don’t be fooled by the early fine weather which could bring the birds forward too early, wait until the signs are unmistakeable Cock birds literally dancing on the perches in full song, and unable to stay still for a moment, hens will also show similar signs with bits of nest material in their beaks continuously searching for a place to set up home. These are the tell-tail signs to look for, but as I have said before don't make the mistake of putting your pairs down too early
The AGM at Wendover went very well, and a new addition has joined the Committee of the Southern, Gary McCarthey, and I wish Gary well and hope that Gary will have a long and successful association with the club. On a sadder note Paul Brockman has had to resign from the committee due to pressure of work. Paul has made an invaluable contribution to the Club and the Southern wish him well for the future. It was good to see a fine turn out at the Wendover show and with an excellent turn out of fine lizards, good catering, and a nice venue I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and finally thanks go to everyone who worked so hard to put the show on and all members who turned out with their birds, for without them there would be no shows
Wish you all a bumper breeding season look forward to seeing you all later in the year
